Sadiqabad train crash happened due to negligence: Sheikh Rasheed

ISLAMABAD: 11,JULY,2019: Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Thursday said the train accident near Sadiqabad, Rahim Yar Khan was the result of human negligence.
While talking to journalists, Sheikh Rasheed expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the accident adding that the accident occurred due to negligence.
The minister said, the train accident took place owing to human error and said he has ordered an investigation into the incident.
Rasheed further said all assistance will be provided to the families of the deceased and the injured.
Rs1.5 million will be given as compensation to the families of those killed in the accident, while Rs500,000 will be given to those critically injured, he announced.
Rs200,000 will be given to those with minor injuries, he added.
The railways minister reiterated that there is a lot of corruption in railways which will take time to eliminate.
“Complete investigation is done into accidents. After the train accident in Hyderabad two section officers were given a notice while two others were dismissed from the department,” Rasheed said.
At least nine passengers were killed and 13 others were injured when a passenger train collided with a freight train near Rahim Yar Khan in wee hours on Wednesday.
According to details, Akbar Express collided freight train in Sadiqabad, Rahim Yar Khan.
The engine of the passenger train got completely destroyed after it hit a freight train at Dulhar railway station.
After getting information, rescue teams have reached at the location and carrying out the relief and rescue work.
The dead bodies and injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical examination.
The ill-fated train was travelling to Quetta from Lahore when it collided with a freight train at Walhar railway station in Sadiqabad Tehsil of Punjab province.
Some of the victims are said to be in serious condition, rescue officials said.
Assistant driver of the passenger train was among the deceased.
Following the accident up and down track, railway traffic is suspended.
Business train, Green Line and other trains were stopped at the Karachi station.

NCOC to launch crackdown against illegal cattle markets across country

Breaking News The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Friday has decided to launch a crackdown against illegal cattle markets across the country. According to sources, the National Command and Operation Centre will take action against the illegally established cattle markets for Eid ul Adha in the country. The move has been taken to ensure implementation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government for cattle markets. Serious violation of the SOPs are being reported in the cattle markets across the country. It is to be noted that, illegal cattle markets had been set up in various parts of Karachi ahead of Eidul Adha. Anti-polio drive to commence across country today

Breaking News Polio vaccination drive will commence across the country from today (Monday). According to sources, the campaign will be carried out in several districts of the country from today.  In the first phase, under the age of five, 800,000 children will be vaccinated in parts of Faisalabad, Attock, South Waziristan, Karachi and Quetta.  Sources further said that during the campaign, social distance and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will be ensured.
