According to sources, the campaign will be carried out in
several districts of the country from today.
In the first phase, under the age of five, 800,000
children will be vaccinated in parts of Faisalabad, Attock, South Waziristan,
Karachi and Quetta.
Sources further said that during the campaign, social
distance and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will be
ensured.
The authorities will provide Personal Protective
Equipment (PPEs), hand gloves, surgical masks, sanitizers, infrared
thermometers to polio workers for vaccination drive.
It is to be noted that 58 cases of polio have been reported
in the country so far this year, including 21 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 20 from
Sindh, 14 from Balochistan and three from Punjab whereas the most recent case
in Sindh was reported on June 9.
Earlier, on July 11, the federal government had decided to
launch a special anti-polio immunization campaign across the country.
According to sources, the immunization campaign will be
launched in four provinces of the country, especially in the areas that have
reported rising polio cases.
"The campaign is titled as targeted response
campaign and will begin from July 20," sources in the national health
department said.
The recent campaign will cover 800,000 children across
the country and Karachi, Quetta, Faisalabad and South Waziristan will be
primarily targeted in the campaign.
